Subject: | Disposal Fee for Municipal Waste Landfills |
As you may know, we currently assess tipping fees for solid waste deposited in our solid waste landfills. These fees help fund our local recycling programs and our very popular Growing Greener Fund. However, waste disposed at residual waste landfills in the Commonwealth are not subject to these same tipping fees. In discussions with folks in the waste industry, I found no rationale for assessing these fees on one classification of landfills and not another. Accordingly, in the near future, I will introduce legislation to expand these fees to include residual waste landfills operating in the Commonwealth. It is estimated that this could yield nearly an additional $1 million for recycling programs and $1.6 million for Growing Greener. I ask that you join me in sponsoring this commonsense legislation. A copy of the legislation is attached. Please contact Chanin Zwing with any questions at 787-5270 or via e-mail at czwing@pahousegop.com. |
