In the near future I will be re-introducing legislation – House Bill 1946, Printer’s Number 4168 from the 2013-2014 Legislative Session. This legislation amends the Precious Metal Sale Regulation Law, adding further requirements to assist law enforcement in the recovery of stolen precious metals and providing increased support for licensed precious metal dealers. The Precious Metal Sale Regulation Law was enacted in 1984. During that time, the price of gold has risen from $300 per ounce in 1984 to over four times that amount in 2014, prompting increasing numbers of precious metal thefts. My legislation would modernize the Precious Metal Sale Regulation Law and assist in the investigation of precious metal thefts. In addition to increased requirements for identification of sellers and additional recordkeeping of precious metal transactions, this legislation makes the following changes to the current law:
