Subject: | Excluding home addresses from disclosure under Right-to-Know Law |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that would amend the Right-to-Know Law (RTKL) to exempt home addresses from disclosure. As many of you are aware, there is a pending lawsuit involving the Office of Open Records and whether the home addresses of public education employees are exempt from disclosure under the RTKL. The Commonwealth Court entered an injunction in which it ordered that agencies could not release public school employees’ home addresses while the case was proceeding. This case started a statewide conversation about information that should and should not be publicly available under the RTKL. Currently, the RTKL only provides an exception from disclosure for the home addresses of law enforcement officials, judges and minors. My legislation would exempt all home addresses from disclosure under the RTKL. This proposal aims to ensure that no one in this Commonwealth fear for their safety or the safety of their loved ones as a result of an unnecessary provision of our law. Please join me in co-sponsoring this simple but vital legislation. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
