Subject: | Distracted Driving - Prior HB 109 |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce HB 109 of last session regarding distracted drivers. Some individuals safely handle distractions like cell phones, radios or eating food while driving, while others weave and crash. Recent studies show a wide variety of behaviors that can affect drivers and create dangerous situations, and so I will shortly introduce legislation that will create an additional summary offense of distracted driving if a driver is also found to be driving carelessly. Distractions may include, but are not limited to, an interactive wireless communications device, an electronic, electrical or mechanical device, a personal grooming device, food, drink, or any printed material. The fine for distracted driving will be $50. This bill also establishes the Driver Distraction Awareness Fund and all fines will be deposited into that fund and shall be used solely for the fund’s educational program. Please join me in cosponsoring this bill. Previous Cosponsors: ROSS , SCHLOSSBERG, CUTLER , STEPHENS, BIZZARRO, TALLMAN, D.
