Subject: | Expanding powers and duties of Waterways Conservation Officers |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation that would amend Title 30 (Fish) to permit Waterways Conservation Officers (WCOs) to pursue, apprehend or arrest any individual suspected of violating any provision of Title 75 (relating to Vehicles). Under current law, WCOs are only permitted to pursue, apprehend and arrest individuals suspected of violating Title 18 provisions (relating to Crimes and Offenses) and any other offenses classified as misdemeanors or felonies. My bill would expand WCO enforcement powers by permitting them to also pursue, apprehend and arrest suspected Title 75 violators. This simple proposal would close a gap in our law that has prevented our WCOs from apprehending criminals who should, but unfortunately do not fall under their jurisdiction.
