MEMORANDUM

Posted: February 2, 2015 02:30 PM
From: Representative Michael K. Hanna
To: All House members
Subject: Limiting fees imposed by public utility companies on seasonal businesses

In the near future, I intend to reintroduce legislation that would limit the fee imposed by public utility companies on seasonal businesses during periods of nonuse of their electric service.

If a customer of a seasonal business does not request the disconnection of their electric service during periods of nonuse, my proposal would ensure that the public utility company could not impose a monthly fee exceeding $25 during the time the service is not being utilized.

Under my bill, a seasonal business would be defined as a campground, ski resort, amusement park, fairground, hunting camp, recreational park, community pool, sport complex or water park.

This legislation aims to prevent unjust and excessive charging of citizens of this Commonwealth by public utility companies. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
