Subject: | Constitutional Amendment to Guarantee a Strike Free Education (former HB-1256) |
Recently, Representative Tallman introduced the “Strike Free Education Act” under HB-126. Unlike other labor disputes, teacher strikes have an impact that goes far beyond the employer and the employees involved in the dispute. Entire communities are held hostage, the wages of individuals outside of the dispute are put at risk, and businesses outside of the school district are inconvenienced when families must find alternative supervision for their children while they are scheduled to be at work. This impact can be especially hard on single-parent households. So, in the near future, I will introduce companion legislation to HB-126 to amend our state constitution to permanently guarantee our citizens’ right to a thorough, efficient, and strike free system of public education. My legislation will be identical to HB-1256 from the 2011-2012 Session. A copy of the prior House Bill is attached. I hope that you will join me in sponsoring this important joint resolution. Previous co-sponsors of HB-1256 include: TRUITT, CUTLER, GODSHALL, TALLMAN, MAHONEY, SWANGER, BLOOM, LAWRENCE, HICKERNELL, AUMENT, ROCK, DENLINGER, EVERETT, WATSON, MOUL and METCALFE |
