MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 12, 2015 02:31 PM
From: Representative Anthony M. DeLuca
To: All House members
Subject: Subject: Health Care Providers Self-Referrals (HB 232 of 2013)

In the near future, I will be re-introducing important legislation which will minimize the impact of medical costs on the insurance system (HB 232 of 2013). This bill will take the current prohibition for certain physician referrals (“self-referrals”) that exists for Pennsylvania’s workers compensation system, and extend it to all rendering of medical services.

The bill prohibits referrals by health care providers that are motivated by issues other than the best interest of the patient, and will ensure that patients and payers are not charged for or receive unnecessary services. This legislation is important as the Commonwealth continues to struggle with health care cost containment.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important legislative initiative.

Introduced as HB274
