Subject: | Former HB 75 Opening Schools after the Labor Day Holiday |
In the near future I plan to re-introduce former HB 75 – An Act amending the Public School Code of 1949 (Title 24) changing provisions relating to school schedules; opening schools after Labor Day. This bill was introduced as a way to ensure that Pennsylvania families get all the benefits of a full, traditional summer vacation while not negatively impacting the education of students. This issue has proven to be very popular. A survey by Mansfield University in 2006 showed that the public supports the legislation 47 percent to 26 percent. Since then I have received many calls, e-mails and letters in support of it as well. |
