Subject: Updating School District Websites - Display Budget and Union Contracts

In the near future, I will introduce legislation to mandate that school districts display their budget and union contracts on their websites if they have one. This proposal is less comprehensive compared to the legislation that would create a "PennWATCH" type of website for school districts. This legislation would not replace or compete against the more comprehensive proposal but would be another place for citizens to get basic information. This more limited approach would encompass school district websites that already exist and would be a simple, virtually no cost plan. A tab or window that is labeled "union contracts" and another tab or window labeled "budget" would be listed on the school district website. If a school district does not have a website, they would not be forced to participate.

Seventy percent of a school district budget includes salaries and benefits. Since these two documents already exist, they can easily be placed on these websites. Some school districts are already posting these budgets on their websites.

I would greatly appreciate your support of this legislation. Thank you for your consideration.
