Subject: | Allowing All Appointed Judges to Solemnize Marriages |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to allow all former judges in good standing, elected or appointed, regardless of length of service, to solemnize marriages. Under current law, only elected former judges or those whose appointment aggregate service exceeds a full term of office (10 years for common pleas and above, 6 years for minor judiciary) may solemnize marriages. This seems to be an unnecessary distinction. For those interested, the bill merely removes the current disqualifying language from Title 23 Section 1503 (a) (2) (i). Please consider cosponsoring this common sense change. |
