MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 26, 2014 11:14 AM
From: Representative Ted Harhai
To: All House members
Subject: Co-sponsorship: Elder Abuse Bill Package

In the near future, I plan to introduce a package of bills that will protect our seniors from potential abuse. My bills would do the following:

Document #1

Introduced as HB2483

Description:

My first bill requires the Pennsylvania Commission on Sentencing to provide a sentencing enhancement for a violation of the neglect of a care dependent person that results in the victim’s death.

Document #2

Description: My second bill requires long-term care facilities, adult day centers, senior centers, assisted living, and senior communities to have policies and procedures addressing bullying.

Document #3

Description:

My third bill amends the ‘Older Adults Protective Services Act’ to add a definition for “serious financial fraud”, to address situations where intentional acts of deception involving financial transactions such as lottery, email, and mail schemes occur.

Document #4

Introduced as HB2486

Description: My fourth bill authorizes the recovery of attorney’s fees where property of an elder’s estate is wrongfully taken through financial abuse or by a power of attorney.

Please join me in cosponsoring one or all four of these bills, which will help protect our seniors from potential abuse
