Subject: | Co-sponsorship of legislation to restrict certain criminals from appearing on a ballot |
In order to improve the integrity of elections in Pennsylvania, I plan to introduce legislation that would reform the beginning of the electoral process. Article II Section 7 of the state constitution provides that “no person hereafter convicted of embezzlement of public moneys, bribery, perjury or other infamous crime, shall be eligible to the General Assembly, or capable of holding any office of trust or profit in this Commonwealth.” I will be introducing legislation, in the near future, that would amend the election code to require all candidates for office to swear or affirm that they have not been convicted of such crimes to ensure that such criminals do not appear on a ballot. If you would like to cosponsor this legislation, please contact my office at 772-9902 or email MHalkias@pahouse.net. Thank you. |
