MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 28, 2014 02:34 PM
From: Representative Mike Regan and Rep. Dan Moul
To: All House members
Subject: Registration of trail bikes and off highway duel sport motorcycles

We will soon be introducing legislation that would require registration of trail bikes and off highway duel sport motorcycles so that they may be used on state forest trails that are open for motorized recreation.

Chapter 77 of the Vehicle Code is the body of law that requires registration of snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles. The proposal would simply add trail bikes and OHM's into that program. Industry estimates indicate that there are more than 111,000 trail bikes (a.k.a.-dirt bikes) currently owned by Pennsylvanians.

The registration and accepted use of these recreational vehicles on state designated motorized trails will bolster the Commonwealth's economy, as well as, those economies of many rural areas of the state where trails exist, and the registration fees will help ensure proper maintenance of the environment and infrastructure.

Please join us in co-sponsorship of this legislation. Thank you.
