Subject: Special License Plate for Utility Workers

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would amend Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to create a special license plate for utility workers.

Utility workers maintain the backbone of the Commonwealth and the country. They work around the clock, ensuring Pennsylvania families have a steady supply of clean water, electricity, and natural gas; making sure that sanitation systems – so critical to public health and safety – get the job done; and keeping us connected to the world.

With the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy recently passing, this recognition is all the more relevant. During those troubling times, we saw thousands of utility workers rushing to eastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, working overtime to shore up our infrastructure, minimizing damage and then speedily repairing it after the storm’s passage to help families and emergency responders. My legislation would help recognize their efforts and let the public see that utility workers are not just the invisible hands that hold our infrastructure together, but also our friends and neighbors.

Please join me in supporting this legislation to recognize these hardworking Pennsylvanians.
