MEMORANDUM

Posted: November 12, 2013 03:29 PM
From: Representative Louise Williams Bishop
To: All House members
Subject: Faatimah Gamble Resolution

In the very near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring Faatimah Gamble. Faatimah Gamble co-founded along with her husband Kenneth Gamble, Universal Companies, a group of organizations that provides a wide range of comprehensive services to rebuild Urban America.

One thing that was missing among Universal’s repertoire however was health education, something Faatimah had grown very passionate about. Therefore, in 1996, she founded The Wellness of You, Inc., a nonprofit organization with a mission of introducing healthy lifestyle practices to medically underserved communities.

Since its inception, over 50,000 individuals have benefited from the programs, workshops and events produced by the Wellness of You. In addition to the Celebrated Wellness Expo and the Annual Wellness Breakfast for Men Only, The Wellness of You produces Character Building/Self Esteem training programs for adolescents as well as an Annual Children’s Wellness Health Fair for over 2,000 students and their families. The Wellness of You was the first organization of its kind in the nation to recognize medical professionals committed to making a difference in community health by acknowledging them with the covered “Tree of Life Award.

A Poet, a former radio talk-show host and restaurateur; she is the recipient of many awards for her community and philanthropic efforts. She currently serves as President of The Wellness of You, Inc; Co-Chairperson of Universal Companies and a member of the Board of Directors of the Universal Institute Charter School. Her plans for the future are focused on Youth programming and health advocacy, specifically in the areas of preventive medicine and obesity education.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
