Subject: | License Plate for Honorary Consuls |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation permitting the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to issue special vehicle license plates for Honorary Consuls serving in Pennsylvania. Honorary Consuls are appointed representatives of a specific nation who serve as a point of contact in cities lacking full diplomatic missions and provide some of the same services as an embassy. Additionally, Honorary Consuls aid in promoting and developing, within their city of residence, the interests of the nation they were appointed to represent. This legislation does not confer any special privileges or immunities on Honorary Consuls, and simply allows for recognition of their responsibilities through a special license plate denoting their title. The special license plate costs an additional $20 and will be similar to the majority of other states that offer such plates. This is a companion bill to legislation introduced in the Senate by Senator Daylin Leach. Please join me in sponsoring this legislation. |
