MEMORANDUM

From: Representative Mike Regan
To: All House members
Subject: Naming of the Glenn Bowers Memorial Bridge

In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation designating a bridge on a portion of State Route 15 over the Yellow Breeches Creek in Carroll Township of York County as the Glenn Bowers Memorial Bridge.

Glenn Bowers was a graduate of Penn State University where he was also a member of the Blue Band, symphony and the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Bowers enlisted in the Navy as an aviation cadet after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Glenn flew over 100 combat missions during his 13-month tour of duty in the South Pacific and was awarded 11 air medals and 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses. During this time, Mr. Bowers also served as a member of the famous “Black Sheep” squadron under Col. Pappy Boyington.

After the war, Glenn Bowers returned to Penn State to complete is B.S. degree in Zoology and M.S. degree in Wildlife Management. From there, he began his career with the Pennsylvania Game Commission where he eventually advanced to the Executive Director position which he held for 17 years. During his time with the Game Commission, numerous innovations were put into place which included the spring turkey season and the establishment of the Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area and the Scotia Range.

Over his lifetime, Mr. Bowers has been recognized with awards by many professional & community organizations which include top honors from the International Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

Please join me in sponsoring this piece of legislation. Thank you for your consideration.
