Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 24, 2013 02:10 PM
From: Representative Julie Harhart
To: All House members
Subject: Reintroduction of Legislation Amending Megan's Law

This fall, I will reintroduce House Bill 123 of last session, amending Megan’s Law in order to provide additional information to citizens about sexual offenders through the Megan’s Law website. Specifically, my proposal will require the street address and place of employment of offenders and sexually violent predators. It is my hope this additional information will enable citizens to better protect themselves and their families.

Under current law, sex offender information posted on the Megan’s Law website and maintained by the Pennsylvania State Police includes the following:

  • Name and all known aliases
  • Year of birth
  • Street address, municipality, county and zip code for residence
  • Street address, municipality, county, zip code and name of any school at which the offender is enrolled
  • Municipality, county and zip code of any place of employment

I believe it is important the public be fully informed of the whereabouts of sex offenders in order to best protect themselves and their families.
