MEMORANDUM

Subject: Easing the Administrative Burden on Small Businesses

In the near future I will be introducing legislation to help reduce the administrative burden on small businesses in the Commonwealth. Currently, some business taxes may be remitted online to the Commonwealth via a web-based portal but there are other taxes they still must remit in the traditional manner.

I have heard from small business owners in my district that allowing them to remit all their business taxes to the Commonwealth via a web-based portal would ease some of the administrative burden they face in operating their business and provide greater accountability for them and the Commonwealth when discrepancies arise.

My legislation will require the Department of Revenue to develop and implement, within 12 months, a web-based system through which business owners may remit all business taxes owed to the Commonwealth.

Introduced as HB1532
