House of Representatives
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 16, 2013 03:21 PM
From: Representative Gordon Denlinger
To: All House members
Subject: Memorializing the President of the United States and the U.S. Congress to support H.R. 1406, known as the "Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013"

For nearly thirty years, public-sector employees at the federal, state, and local levels have been afforded the option of receiving compensatory time off in lieu of monetary compensation for overtime hours worked. This flexibility has been invaluable for hard-working citizens who would rather spend time with their children, devote time to achieving their educational goals, or care for loved ones in their times of need.

In the near future I will be introducing a Resolution memorializing the President of the United Sates and the U.S. Congress to support a very important piece of legislation which would extend this same flexibility to workers in the private sector. H.R. 1406, otherwise known as the “Working Families Flexibility Act of 2013”, would do just that. H.R.1406 passed the House of Representatives on May 8, 2013 and has been referred to Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions for further review.

It is my strong conviction that private-sector employees should be entitled to the same workplace flexibilities enjoyed by their public-sector counterparts. Indeed, thousands of hard-working families in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation need and deserve such flexibility.

Please join me in urging the President and Congress to recognize this need.
