MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 8, 2013 03:42 PM
From: Representative Mark M. Gillen
To: All House members
Subject: State Adoption Tax Credit

In the near future, I will be introducing legislation that will provide for a state adoption tax credit to help defray the costs of adoption.

This legislation uses the same qualifications and guidelines as under the federal program, but limits the credit to 50% of the federal tax credit. The credit may not be used to reduce tax liability below zero, but can be carried forward and used in subsequent years.

Those who adopt children in our state often face significant costs, and this is one way to help those desiring to give children a stable and safe home environment.

Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation.
