Subject: | Hunting From Boats |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation amending the Pennsylvania Game and Wildlife Code to make it unlawful to shoot big game on the private property of another person from a boat. Currently under Title 34 (Game), it is lawful for a person to hunt form a boat so long as the boat is not under power other than manpower or still moving as a result of being under such power. This allows lawful hunting to occur from an anchored, drifting or rowed boat. However, there is no restriction on shooing onto the property of another when hunting in this manner. I have received numerous complaints from constituents about hunters shooting onto private property from boats during the rifle deer season. While I believe this should constitute trespass under the Crimes Code, it can be difficult to enforce for state or local police. My legislation would make taking big game in this manner on the property of another without the landowner’s permission a specific violation of the Game Code, allowing Wildlife Conservation Officers to enforce the violation as such. Since this measure specifically relates to big game animals, it would have no effect on traditional waterfowl hunting. |
