Subject: | Bullying Awareness & Prevention Registration Plate |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation proposing to create a special vehicle registration plate designed to raise awareness about the problem of bullying in our schools. My legislation directs the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, in consultation with the Office for Safe Schools within the Department of Education, to design and produce a Bullying Awareness and Prevention special registration plate available to vehicle owners who would like to support this worthwhile cause. Individuals would be able to order this special license plate for a fee of $35, which would be in addition to the annual registration fee for the vehicle. Out of each fee, $15 is to be deposited into a Bullying Awareness and Prevention Fund, which shall be established and administered by the Office for Safe Schools within the Department of Education. The other $20 of the fee would go to PennDOT to cover the costs of producing and issuing the special plates. These plates would be available for passenger cars and trucks that do not exceed 10,000 pounds. As a former educator, I am sensitive to the psychological and physical damage that can be done to a child who is subjected to this sort of abuse. We must do all we can to prevent bullying and ensure that children can live and learn in a safe educational environment. I would like your support in this effort. This license will create a visual impact for drivers across the nation that Pennsylvania does not tolerate bullying. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. KB:brz |
