Subject: | County 911 Consolidation/Joint Purchasing |
I plan to introduce legislation that will amend our emergency 911 statute to foster regionalization and cost-sharing measures among our county 911 centers. Specifically, my proposal will amend Chapter 53 of Title 35 by requiring PEMA to encourage consolidation, regionalization and joint purchasing opportunities, so counties can save money on their operations. This proposal will also eliminate the carrying forward of unpaid agency (PEMA) approved costs, thereby making the wireless 911 fund solvent for years to come. (i.e.….. it is projected that $68 million of this year’s $109 million fund will be payments for prior year’s costs. Without making this correction in statute the fund will go bankrupt. I plan to introduce this legislation by the close of business on February 4, 2013. |
