MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 15, 2013 11:23 AM
From: Representative W. Curtis Thomas
To: All House members
Subject: Career and Vocational-Technical Education (Formerly HB 2298 of the 2011-2012 Legislative Session)

In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that would make career development or vocational-technical education a graduation requirement.

My bill amends Act 14 of 1949 (Pennsylvania Public School Code) by mandating every school district to establish a curriculum that aligns with Pennsylvania academic standards on career and vocational-technical education. Every pupil enrolled in a public school district would have to participate in one class of either career development or vocational-technical education as a graduation requirement.

Vocational-technical training and career development is an essential part of education and helps to ensure all of our children become productive members of society whether they decide to go to college or straight into the workforce. The goal of this legislation is to give our children as many career options as possible.

Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
