MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 10, 2013 12:23 PM
From: Representative Thomas R. Caltagirone
To: All House members
Subject: 5 Year Prohibition on State Contracts for Former Statewide Officials

In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation that prohibits publicly elected statewide officeholders from entering into employment agreements or contracts with businesses or corporations that do business with the Commonwealth.

This bill will restrict publicly elected statewide officials from entering into these contracts during their tenure in office and will continue for 5 years after leaving such office.

This legislation is extremely important to the Commonwealth and our constituency. By prohibiting the ability of publicly elected statewide officeholders to enter into governmental contracts we can effectively eliminate “special interest” and “closed door” contract agreements. The public should not have to worry about elected officials performing their duties with incentives for personal benefit.

Introduced as HB464
