Subject:	Medical Assistance/child support legislation (Former HB 723)

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation (former HB 723) to require parents to support their children. I know this sounds like something that should already be in law, but believe it or not, we need a bill to require it. Currently, the welfare code is silent on the subject of medical support for children receiving Medical Assistance. My bill will require the non-custodial parent of children for whom Medical Assistance is sought to enroll their children in their own health insurance plans before the Commonwealth would pay for medical care for them.
