Subject: | Gold Star Family License Plates (Previous House Bill 2217) |
Over the past decade, many military members have given their life for our country and the commonwealth. Now is a perfect time to recognize their sacrifice by greatly reducing the cost of Gold Star Family plates. I was surprised to learn from a constituent that PennDOT charges a fee for Gold Star Family license plates. The Gold Star Family license plate is available to family members of persons killed while serving on active duty. Applicants must provide proper documentation and a fee of $20.00 to the Department of Transportation. In the near future, I plan to re-introduce legislation that will authorize PennDOT to lower the customary special plate fee for the Gold Star Family plate to “cost”. The $20.00 fee will be lowered to $7.50 to cover only PennDOT costs. Anyone who qualifies to receive the Gold Star Family plate has already made an immeasurable sacrifice for our state and our country. It simply does not seem right to ask them to pay any more than necessary for a special license plate that recognizes their sacrifice. The bill passed the House unanimously last Session. A copy of last Session's legislation is attached. Previous co-sponsors include: TRUITT, AUMENT, BAKER , BOBACK , BRENNAN , D.
