| Subject: | Amending the Public School Code to provide for Public School Resource Officer funding for elementary schools |
| In light of the tragedy with Newtown, Connecticut, it is my intention to introduce legislation that will amend the public school code of 1949, and/or Act. 104 of 2010 – which created the Office for Safe Schools within PDE (Dept of Education), to provide for funding for School Resource Officers in elementary schools. Further, it is my intention to make this funding retroactive for schools that have already taken steps to fund school resource officers in their respective elementary schools. This funding source will be earmarked SOLELY for this purpose, and will be extended to the brick and mortar non-public schools as well (Charter and Parochial). Funding will come from the Dept. of Education line item(s) in the budget, under the Basic Ed subsidy line w/in PDE.
