Subject: | Glock switch prohibition |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation to prohibit the possession and distribution of “Glock switches,” which are aftermarket modifications or devices that convert Glock handguns into machineguns. Modifications intended to increase a firearm’s rate of fire facilitate criminal activities, make firearms more prone to accidental discharge, and pose a significant risk to both users and bystanders. Indeed, once a Glock switch is installed on a handgun, the firearm becomes unwieldy, accuracy is significantly compromised, and the firearm can no longer serve as an effective tool for self-defense. Last year, a Glock switch-modified firearm was used to kill police officer, Jeremy Malone, during a traffic stop near Beaumont, Mississippi. In September of 2021, a felon wielding a firearm with a Glock switch killed a Houston, Texas police officer and wounded another during an attempted arrest. Here in Pennsylvania, police officers are encountering Glock switches at an ever-increasing rate. While these modifications and devices are currently prohibited by Federal law, law enforcement officers and prosecutors in this Commonwealth are unable to pursue criminal charges for the possession or distribution of any Glock switch. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to better protect our Commonwealth. |
