FRANK J. PASQUERILLA, NICHOLSON BOROUGH VETERANS MEMORIAL, GENE HARTZELL MEMORIAL AND THADDEUS STEVENS BRIDGES - DESIGNATIONS Act of Jun. 25, 2001, P.L. 695, No. 65 Cl. 87 AN ACT Designating a bridge in the City of Johnstown, Cambria County, the Frank J. Pasquerilla Bridge; designating a bridge on State Route 1017 over the north branch of Tunkhannock Creek as the Nicholson Borough Veterans Memorial Bridge; designating a bridge on State Route 33 over the Lehigh River in Northampton County as the Gene Hartzell Memorial Bridge; and designating a certain bridge in Lancaster County as the Thaddeus Stevens Bridge. The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby enacts as follows: Section 1. Frank J. Pasquerilla Bridge. (a) Finding of fact.--The General Assembly hereby finds and declares as follows: (1) Frank J. Pasquerilla (1926-1999), native son of the City of Johnstown, was an entrepreneur and humanitarian of extraordinary accomplishment. (2) Despite the temptations of fame and wealth, Frank J. Pasquerilla lived his life firmly rooted to the religious beliefs, family values, moral standards and community spirit with which he was raised. (3) Frank J. Pasquerilla will be remembered not only by his success in business but by his dedication to higher education and the arts. (4) The achievements and contributions of Frank J. Pasquerilla embody the spirit of Americanism and serve as a glimmering beacon for future generations of Pennsylvanians to reflect upon and aspire to become. (b) Designation authorized.--The bridge in the City of Johnstown carrying State Route 271 at Phoebe Court over the Little Conemaugh River is hereby designated and shall hereafter be known as the Frank J. Pasquerilla Bridge in honor of Frank J. Pasquerilla's many contributions to his community, to his county and to this Commonwealth. (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect appropriate signs at each end of the bridge displaying the designation made by this section. Section 2. Nicholson Borough Veterans Memorial Bridge. (2 repealed March 22, 2002, P.L.203, No.15) Section 3. Gene Hartzell Memorial Bridge. (a) Designation authorized.--The bridge carrying State Route 33 over the Lehigh River in Northampton County shall be known as the Gene Hartzell Memorial Bridge. (b) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain signs at each side of the bridge displaying the name of the bridge. Section 4. Thaddeus Stevens Bridge. (a) Designation.--The replacement bridge carrying State Route 72 over Amtrak in the City of Lancaster and Manheim Township, locally known as the Fruitville Pike Bridge, is hereby designated the Thaddeus Stevens Bridge. (b) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs at each end of the bridge which shall display the name of the bridge designated in subsection (a). Section 5. Effective date. This act shall take effect as follows: (1) Section 1 shall take effect immediately. (2) This section shall take effect immediately. (3) The remainder of this act shall take effect in 60 days.
