A RESOLUTION
Recognizing September 23, 2023, as "National Wild Turkey
Federation Day" in Pennsylvania in conjunction with "National
Hunting and Fishing Day."
WHEREAS, The National Wild Turkey Federation was created in
1973 and has provided the foundation for wild turkey
conservation throughout North America; and
WHEREAS, The National Wild Turkey Federation was founded by
Tom Rodgers of Virginia, with the mission of conserving the wild
turkey and preserving hunting heritage; and
WHEREAS, That mission has led to huntable populations of wild
turkeys in 49 states, 22 million acres of wildlife habitat
conserved or enhanced and millions of new hunters recruited; and
WHEREAS, When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded
in 1973, there were only approximately 1.3 million wild turkeys
in North America, and now that number has hit a historic high of
nearly 7 million wild turkeys; and
WHEREAS, Through the National Wild Turkey Federation's "Save
the Habitat. Save the Hunt Initiative," more than 4 million

acres of wildlife habitat have been enhanced, 1.5 million
hunters have been recruited and access to 500,000 acres has been
accomplished nationally; and
WHEREAS, In conjunction with committed partners, the National
Wild Turkey Federation has facilitated the investment of more
than half of $1 billion in wildlife conservation and the
preservation of North America's hunting heritage; and
WHEREAS, In this Commonwealth alone, the National Wild Turkey
Federation has conserved or enhanced 22,191 acres of wildlife
habitat and completed 65 conservation projects with 22 more
currently in progress; and
WHEREAS, The National Wild Turkey Federation has 15,837
active members in this Commonwealth and has opened 1,178 acres
for hunting in the last five years; and
WHEREAS, This year marks the 50th anniversary of the
organization's inception and the organization's commitment to
the research, education, conservation and habitat of wild turkey
populations; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize
September 23, 2023, as "National Wild Turkey Federation Day" in
Pennsylvania in conjunction with "National Hunting and Fishing
Day."
