A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the days of May 12 through 21, 2023, as "Go Public
Gardens Days" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "Go Public Gardens Days" is an ongoing, evergreen
initiative led by the American Public Gardens Association and
supported by its partnership with the Pennsylvania Public
Horticulture Coalition to drive the public to visit, value and
volunteer at public gardens in their area and when they travel;
and
WHEREAS, The campaign brings a special focus from the Friday
before to the Sunday after Mother's Day; and
WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is home to more than 35 public
gardens; and
WHEREAS, The greater Philadelphia area is known as "America's
Garden Capital"; and
WHEREAS, Public gardens play a key role in two of this
Commonwealth's leading industries: agriculture and tourism; and
WHEREAS, Public gardens support more than 2,000 full-time

employees in this Commonwealth, drive more than $500 million
into this Commonwealth's economy and support $164 million in
combined operating budgets; and
WHEREAS, Public gardens in this Commonwealth welcome a
diverse visitor base of 4.2 million people annually, on par with
many professional sports leagues; and
WHEREAS, An estimated one-third of all visitors are from
outside of the State, bringing millions of dollars in visitor
spending to this Commonwealth's communities and supporting our
economy; and
WHEREAS, Public gardens and public horticulture institutions
are vital to feeding humanity; and
WHEREAS, Public gardens bring together a variety of
expertise, approaches and solutions that are essential for
biodiversity in food and agriculture; and
WHEREAS, Public gardens and public horticulture institutions
preserve thousands of acres of natural resources through
conservation, restored forests, improved watersheds and healthy
private working lands; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
days of May 12 through 21, 2023, as "Go Public Gardens Days" in
Pennsylvania.
