A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the week of May 15 through 21, 2022, as "National
Police Week" and designating May 9, 2022, as "Police
Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Since the beginning of law enforcement within this
Commonwealth, hundreds of police officers have made the ultimate
sacrifice while in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, It is highly fitting and appropriate to honor the
following exemplary residents who protected and preserved the
public's safety:

WHEREAS, Across the United States, the week of May 15 through
21, 2022, is being recognized as "National Police Week"; and
WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation in
1962 declaring "National Peace Officers Memorial Day"; and
WHEREAS, The first "National Peace Officers' Memorial
Service" was held on May 15, 1982; and
WHEREAS, The observance continues to be held annually in
memory of those police officers who have made the ultimate
sacrifice in the line of duty; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the week of May 15
through 21, 2022, as "National Police Week" and designate May 9,
2022, as "Police Officers' Memorial Day" in Pennsylvania; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate honor the memory of the hundreds of
police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty
in this Commonwealth.
