A RESOLUTION
Designating December 18, 2021, as "Wreaths Across America Day"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Wreaths Across America project began in 1992
with the transportation and placement of 5,000 Maine balsam fir
remembrance wreaths on the graves of the fallen heroes buried at
Arlington National Cemetery; and
WHEREAS, The Wreaths Across America project is recognized
annually in December; and
WHEREAS, More than 3,317,000 wreaths have been sent to
locations, including national cemeteries and veterans memorials,
in every state and overseas; and
WHEREAS, Each December, hundreds of thousands of individuals
volunteer to help lay remembrance wreaths; and
WHEREAS, In 2020, more than 1,700,000 wreaths were placed at
2,557 locations nationwide; and
WHEREAS, The mission of the Wreaths Across America project,

to "Remember, Honor and Teach," is carried out in part by
coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies in all 50 states, at sea
and abroad, including at Arlington National Cemetery, veterans
cemeteries and other locations; and
WHEREAS, The Wreaths Across America project includes a
weeklong veterans parade between Maine and Virginia to spread a
message about the importance of remembering the fallen heroes of
the United States, honoring those who serve and reminding
citizens of the sacrifices made by veterans and their families
to preserve freedoms in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The tradition of escorting tractor trailers filled
with donated wreaths from Harrington, Maine, to Arlington
National Cemetery will be continued by the Patriot Guard Riders
and other patriotic escort units, including motorcycle units,
law enforcement units and first responder units; and
WHEREAS, The trucking industry in the United States continues
to support the Wreaths Across America project by providing
drivers, equipment and related services to assist in the
transportation of wreaths across the United States to more than
1,000 locations; and
WHEREAS, The 2021 Wreaths Across America theme is "Live Up to
Their Legacy"; and
WHEREAS, On December 14, 2021, this Commonwealth is holding a
Wreaths Across America ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate December 18, 2021, as
"Wreaths Across America Day" in Pennsylvania and call upon all
residents to volunteer for the program and remember the service
of veterans and members of the armed forces of the United States
and the sacrifices that fallen heroes, veterans, members of the

armed forces and their families have made, and continue to make,
for this great nation.
