A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of September 2021 as "National Sickle Cell
Awareness Month" and proclaiming that "sickle cell disease
matters."
WHEREAS, The Senate of Pennsylvania recognizes that September
2021 is "National Sickle Cell Awareness Month," designated by
the United States Congress to help focus attention on the need
for research and treatment of sickle cell disease; and
WHEREAS, It is recognized that sickle cell disease is one of
the world's foremost genetic diseases; and
WHEREAS, Sickle cell disease has severe physical,
psychological and social consequences for those affected and
their families, and in its homozygote form it is one of the most
lethal genetic diseases; and
WHEREAS, There is a serious need to raise public awareness
about sickle cell disease and to eliminate harmful prejudices
associated with the disease; and
WHEREAS, The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America,
Inc., has designated "Sickle Cell Matters 2021" as this year's
