A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of June 2021 as "Dairy Month" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The dairy industry is Pennsylvania's largest
agricultural industry; and
WHEREAS, Dairy farmers are established contributors to our
communities; and
WHEREAS, Dairy farming is an integral part of Pennsylvania's
agriculture and overall economy, generating $14.7 billion of
economic activity annually; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks second in the nation in terms of
the number of dairy farms; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks seventh nationally in milk
production and this Commonwealth's 482,000 cows produced more
than 10.2 billion pounds of milk in 2020; and
WHEREAS, The dairy industry supports more than 52,000 jobs
across this Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Ninety-nine percent of the dairy farms in this

Commonwealth are family-owned; and
WHEREAS, Dairy farmers, their families and other dairy
industry employees should be recognized and celebrated;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate the month of June 2021 as
"Dairy Month" in Pennsylvania; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate bring awareness to the current
hardships facing the dairy industry in Pennsylvania; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the immense value that
Pennsylvania's dairy industry injects into our State and local
economies; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate applaud the hard work and
resiliency of our dairy farmers and their families; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That the Senate promote the purchase and
consumption of the high-quality dairy products produced here at
home in Pennsylvania.
