A RESOLUTION
Congratulating members of the Pennsylvania State University
wrestling team and Pennsylvania residents who competed and
placed during the National Collegiate Athletic Association
Division I Wrestling Championship.
WHEREAS, In his second appearance at the NCAA Championship
Tournament, the Pennsylvania State University wrestler Roman
Bravo-Young won his first National Collegiate Athletic
Association (NCAA) wrestling title in the 133-pound division;
and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestler Roman
Bravo-Young earned the All-American distinction for the third
time, was a Hodge Trophy finalist and ended the season with a
14-0 record; and
WHEREAS, In his third appearance at the NCAA Championship
Tournament, the Pennsylvania State University wrestler Nick Lee
won his first NCAA wrestling title in the 141-pound division;
and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestler Nick Lee

earned the distinction of the Pennsylvania State University's
15th four-time All-American, placed second in the 141-pound
final of the Big Ten Tournament and was the first NCAA champion
for the Pennsylvania State University in the 141-pound division
since the weight classes changed to their current form in 1999;
and
WHEREAS, In his first appearance at the NCAA Championship
Tournament, the Pennsylvania State University wrestler Carter
Starocci won his first NCAA wrestling title in the 174-pound
division; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestler Carter
Starocci earned the All-American distinction for the first time
and was named 2021 Big Ten Freshman of the Year, becoming the
Pennsylvania State University's seventh overall and second
straight Freshman of the Year; and
WHEREAS, In his first appearance at the NCAA Championship
Tournament, the Pennsylvania State University wrestler Aaron
Brooks won his first NCAA wrestling title in the 184-pound
division; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestler Aaron
Brooks earned the All-American distinction for the second time,
was a Hodge Trophy finalist and ended the season with a 14-0
record; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University Wrestling team
featured six All-Americans in 2021 and finished second in the
Big Ten Championships; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestling team
placed second at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship; and
WHEREAS, In his third appearance at the NCAA Championship
Tournament, the University of Iowa wrestler and Franklin

Regional High School graduate Spencer Lee earned his third NCAA
wrestling title in the 125-pound division while competing with
two torn anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs); and
WHEREAS, Spencer Lee was a co-winner of the 2021 Dan Hodge
Trophy and earned the All-American distinction for the fourth
time; and
WHEREAS, Sammy Sasso, from Nazareth, earned second place in
the 149-pound division while competing for the Ohio State
University and earned the All-American distinction for the
second time; and
WHEREAS, Jake Wentzel, from South Park, earned second place
in the 165-pound division while competing for the University of
Pittsburgh and earned the All-American distinction for the
second time; and
WHEREAS, Michael Kemerer, from Murrysville, and another
graduate from Franklin Regional High School earned second place
in the 174-pound division while competing for the University of
Iowa and earned the All-American distinction for the third time;
and
WHEREAS, Trent Hidlay, from Lewistown, earned second place in
the 184-pound division while competing for North Carolina State
University and earned the All-American distinction for the
second time; and
WHEREAS, Nino Bonaccorsi, from Bethel Park, earned second
place in the 197-pound division while competing for the
University of Pittsburgh and earned the All-American distinction
for the second time; and
WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestler Michael
Beard earned seventh place in the 197-pound division and earned
the All-American distinction for the first time; and

WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania State University wrestler Greg
Kerkvliet earned seventh place in the 285-pound division and
earned the All-American distinction for the first time; and
WHEREAS, Of the 330 wrestlers competing at the NCAA Division
I Wrestling Championship, 50 hailed from Pennsylvania; therefore
be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate members of the
Pennsylvania State University wrestling team and Pennsylvania
residents who competed and placed during the National Collegiate
Athletic Association Division I Wrestling Championship; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate Roman Bravo-Young,
Nick Lee, Carter Starocci, Aaron Brooks and Spencer Lee on their
individual wins at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championship
and their individual awards; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Senate congratulate all of the
Pennsylvania residents who competed and placed during the NCAA
Division I Wrestling Championship.
