A RESOLUTION
Designating May 8, 2021, as "National Association of Letter
Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day" in Pennsylvania and
commending the National Association of Letter Carriers for
its humanitarian efforts to eliminate hunger.
WHEREAS, On May 8, 2021, the National Association of Letter
Carriers (NALC) is conducting the 29th annual NALC "Stamp Out
Hunger" food drive to combat hunger; and
WHEREAS, The NALC's food drive is held in all 50 states and
territories of the United States and is the largest one-day food
drive in the nation; and
WHEREAS, On May 8, letter carriers are collecting
nonperishable donations as they deliver mail along their postal
routes; and
WHEREAS, The food is collected in more than 10,000
communities by letter carriers and other volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Donations are delivered to food banks, pantries and
shelters that serve the area where the donations are collected;

WHEREAS, The summer months are a particularly critical time
as donations and supplies are low and millions of children's
school lunch programs are suspended until fall, causing families
to find alternate sources of nutrition; and
WHEREAS, Letter carriers see families in need every day as
they deliver the mail, and this food drive is one way to help
alleviate their plight; and
WHEREAS, Postal patrons are encouraged to participate by
leaving donations by their mailboxes on May 8; and
WHEREAS, Cosponsors of this year's food drive include the
United States Postal Service, Valpak, Inc., AARP, the United
Food and Commercial Workers International Union, Valassis, Inc.,
local United Ways and the AFL-CIO; and
WHEREAS, Since the food drive's inception in 1993, local
letter carriers have collected more than 1.5 billion pounds of
food; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate May 8, 2021, as "National
Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day"
in Pennsylvania and commend the National Association of Letter
Carriers for its humanitarian efforts to eliminate hunger; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That the residents of this Commonwealth be
commended for their past participation in the NALC's food drive
and be encouraged to generously contribute to this year's effort
to help feed the hungry.
