AN ACT
Designating a bridge, identified as Bridge Key 41697, on that
portion of State Route 3019 over Clearfield Creek, on the
border of Coalport Borough and Beccaria Township, Clearfield
County, as the Technical Sergeant Richard L. Beers Memorial
Bridge.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Technical Sergeant Richard L. Beers Memorial Bridge.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Richard L. Beers was born August 30, 1923, in
Fallentimber, Cambria County, and was the son of Levi R.
Beers and Catherine (Van Scoyoc) Beers.
(2) Mr. Beers was a 1941 graduate of Beccaria Township
High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps in September
1941, attending aircraft maintenance and gunnery schools.
(3) Technical Sergeant Beers was a gunner on a B-17 when
it was shot down over Saint-Nazaire, France.

(4) Technical Sergeant Beers was reported missing in
action by the United States Department of War on November 12,
1942, and on November 1, 1943, it was verified he was killed
on November 9, 1942.
(5) Technical Sergeant Beers was the first military
member from the Coalport area that was killed in World War
II.
(6) Technical Sergeant Beers was posthumously awarded
the Purple Heart and was buried at Jefferson Barracks
National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri, in June 1950.
(b) Designation.--The bridge, identified as Bridge Key
41697, on that portion of State Route 3019 over Clearfield
Creek, on the border of Coalport Borough and Beccaria Township,
Clearfield County, is designated the Technical Sergeant Richard
L. Beers Memorial Bridge.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to
traffic in both directions on the bridge.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
