contain an additional sixty square feet for each additional
licensee. The board, upon an applicant's request, may exempt a
salon from the floor area requirements under this subsection if
the board deems the exemption reasonable.
(b) For a licensed cosmetology salon that opened before
September 15, 1976, and is operated by one licensee, the floor
area of the salon shall contain sufficient space to properly
install the necessary equipment to ensure the health and safety
of the customers of the salon. The floor space of a salon under
this subsection shall be a minimum of ten feet by twelve feet or
one hundred twenty square feet. If a salon under this subsection
is operated by more than one licensee, the floor area of the
salon shall contain an additional sixty square feet for each
additional licensee. The board, after examination of a salon's
layout, may exempt the salon from the floor area requirements
under this subsection if the board deems the exemption
reasonable.
Section 2. Section 12.1 of the act is amended to read:
Section 12.1. Temporary Licenses.--(a) Upon payment of the
required fee, a temporary license may be issued to any applicant
who is eligible for admission to a cosmetologist's examination
or to the examination for any of the limited licenses. An
applicant who is thus licensed shall practice only under the
supervision of a licensed teacher or cosmetologist, or under the
supervision of the holder of a corresponding limited license,
until the time of the next scheduled examination. Temporary
licenses are granted for a nine-month period.
(b) Upon payment of a fee set by the board not to exceed one
hundred dollars ($100.00), a temporary salon license may be
issued to a licensed cosmetologist who has submitted an
