AN ACT
Designating a portion of State Route 2004 between Pennsylvania
Route 63, also known as Main Street, in Lansdale Borough,
Montgomery County, and Pennsylvania Route 309, also known as
the Bethlehem Pike, in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County,
as the Dr. Frank E. Boston Memorial Highway.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Dr. Frank E. Boston Memorial Highway.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Born in 1890 in Philadelphia, Dr. Frank E. Boston
was a World War I veteran of African-American heritage who
served in the 317th Infantry and held the title of first
lieutenant in the Army Reserve Medical.
(2) After completing training, Dr. Boston served in
France until the end of his service attaining the final rank
of major.
(3) After returning to the United States, Dr. Boston
came to Lansdale Borough, Montgomery County, and opened Elm

(4) Additionally, Dr. Boston started one of the first
emergency response units in Lansdale, known as the First Aide
Emergency Squad, that is now known as the Volunteer Medical
Service Corps (VMSC).
(5) To this day, the VMSC uses the logo that Dr. Boston
helped design.
(6) Dr. Boston passed away in 1960 at the age of 69.
(7) Dr. Boston's efforts helped make Lansdale what it is
today and very likely saved many lives in the process.
(b) Designation.--The section of State Route 2004 between
Pennsylvania Route 63, also known as Main Street, in Lansdale
Borough, Montgomery County, and Pennsylvania Route 309, also
known as the Bethlehem Pike, in Hatfield Township, Montgomery
County, is designated as the Dr. Frank E. Boston Memorial
Highway.
(c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
traffic in both directions on the highway.
Section 2. Effective date.
This act shall take effect in 60 days.
