AN ACT
Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
Statutes, in size, weight and load, further providing for
maximum gross weight of vehicles and for maximum axle weight
of vehicles.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Section 4941 of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a subsection to read:
§ 4941. Maximum gross weight of vehicles.

(c.1) Exception.--A municipal-owned three-axle motor vehicle
may exceed the 58,400 pound maximum gross weight under
subsection (c) if the gross weight is not more than the
vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating or 66,000 pounds,
whichever is less.

Section 2. Section 4943(b) is amended by adding a paragraph
to read:

(b) Exceptions and special applications.--
* * *
(7) Subsection (a)(1) and (2) shall not apply to a
municipal-owned three-axle motor vehicle if each nonsteering
axle does not carry an excess of 24,000 pounds or an overall
gross weight of 66,000 pounds.
(7) SUBSECTION (A)(1) AND (2) SHALL NOT APPLY TO A
MUNICIPAL-OWNED, THREE-AXLE MOTOR VEHICLE IF EACH NONSTEERING
AXLE DOES NOT CARRY AN EXCESS OF 24,000 POUNDS OR AN OVERALL
GROSS WEIGHT OF 66,000 POUNDS. THIS PARAGRAPH SHALL NOT BE
APPLICABLE TO INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS EXCEPT FOR A HIGHWAY ADDED
TO THE INTERSTATE SYSTEM UNDER THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SYSTEM
DESIGNATION ACT OF 1995. MOVEMENT UNDER THIS PARAGRAPH IS NOT
AUTHORIZED UPON A BRIDGE POSTED UNDER SECTION 4902.

Section 3. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
