AN ACT
Designating a bridge on that portion of State Route 4001 over
Crooked Creek, Armstrong Township, Indiana County, as the
Sergeant Carl Roof Memorial Bridge.
The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Sergeant Carl Roof Memorial Bridge.
(a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
follows:
(1) Sergeant Carl Roof, a native of Armstrong Township,
served his country honorably during World War II.
(2) Twenty days after the Normandy invasion began,
Sergeant Roof was captured by the Germans near Nancy, France.
(3) For 11 months, Sergeant Roof suffered as a prisoner
of war in Stalag 12A, one of Germany's largest prisoner of
war camps.
(4) Sergeant Roof survived the internment and returned
home to Indiana County where he resumed dairy farming and
later worked for Caterpillar.
