A RESOLUTION
Designating February 11, 2020, as "PA 2-1-1 Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 is a free service available to all residents
of this Commonwealth to assist in supporting a multitude of
health and human service needs; and
WHEREAS, Effective January 1, 2020, PA 2-1-1 is celebrating
100% Statewide coverage of its services; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of people across the United States and
Canada turn to 2-1-1 for free, confidential referrals and
information every day; and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 connects residents of this Commonwealth in
need of health and human services with assistance available
through government programs and private and nonprofit
organizations in their communities; and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 has the potential to provide assistance to
communities in time of a disaster; and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 connects volunteers and donors with

organizations that can leverage resources to meet the needs of
the community; and
WHEREAS, 2-1-1 collects data about information and referral
requests which can be used to inform State and local governments
as well as community service organizations in assessing needs
and planning services; and
WHEREAS, PA 2-1-1 Counts provides real-time health and human
services data for each zip code across this Commonwealth as well
as counties, regions, congressional and legislative districts
and school districts; and
WHEREAS, The 2-1-1 system offers a stable Statewide
infrastructure that can be used in a broad variety of ways to
streamline and enhance the work of State government; and
WHEREAS, The PA 2-1-1 system eases the burden on Commonwealth
departments by helping to reduce the number of misdirected
calls; and
WHEREAS, PA 2-1-1 is the nonprofit organization assigned use
of the 2-1-1 dialing code by the Pennsylvania Public Utility
Commission in order to provide community service information and
referral, currently accomplished through seven regional
programs; and
WHEREAS, The United Ways in this Commonwealth deserve
recognition for their role in raising the funds needed to
provide the PA 2-1-1 system to residents in this Commonwealth;
and
WHEREAS, The Commonwealth and the General Assembly deserve
recognition for continued support of the 2-1-1 service,
including annual investments of $750,000 to the PA 2-1-1 system
to provide residents of this Commonwealth with the resources
needed for health and human services information and referrals;

RESOLVED, That the Senate designate February 11, 2020, as "PA
2-1-1 Day" in Pennsylvania.
