A RESOLUTION
Designating the month of November 2019 as "Pancreatic Cancer
Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, "Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month" is being
observed in this Commonwealth to raise awareness of pancreatic
cancer; and
WHEREAS, In 2019, an estimated 56,770 people will be
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States, and
45,750 people will die from the disease; and
WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in
the United States, with a nearly 90% mortality rate; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the nation for
pancreatic cancer diagnoses; and
WHEREAS, When symptoms of pancreatic cancer appear, it is
usually too late for an optimistic prognosis; and
WHEREAS, The average life expectancy of individuals diagnosed
with metastatic disease is only three to six months; and
