A RESOLUTION
Recognizing Fallingwater, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy
and the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy on
Fallingwater being named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
WHEREAS, On July 7, 2019, the World Heritage Committee
officially inscribed "The 20th Century Architecture of Frank
Lloyd Wright," which includes Fallingwater and seven other major
architectural works of Frank Lloyd Wright, on the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World
Heritage List; and
WHEREAS, Fallingwater, located in Mill Run, joins
Independence Hall in Philadelphia as Pennsylvania's second World
Heritage Site; and
WHEREAS, Fallingwater was designed in 1935 by acclaimed
American architect Frank Lloyd Wright as a weekend retreat for
the Kaufmann Family; and
WHEREAS, The house is now owned by the Western Pennsylvania
Conservancy and has been open to the public for tours since

1964, hosting millions of visitors; and
WHEREAS, Located over a waterfall on Bear Run, Fallingwater
is widely considered to be one of the finest private residences
ever built, and has been hailed as a "harmonious union of art
and nature"; and
WHEREAS, The house has been designated a National Historic
Landmark and a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Treasure; and
WHEREAS, Fallingwater was also named the "best all-time work
of American architecture" in a poll of members of the American
Institute of Architects; and
WHEREAS, UNESCO considers potential World Heritage Sites
based on "outstanding universal value"; and
WHEREAS, Fallingwater is now a part of one of only 24 United
States inscriptions on the World Heritage List; and
WHEREAS, The World Heritage List nomination was spearheaded
by Lynda S. Waggoner, Director Emerita of Fallingwater, and the
Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize Fallingwater, the Western
Pennsylvania Conservancy and the Frank Lloyd Wright Building
Conservancy on Fallingwater being named a UNESCO World Heritage
Site.
