A RESOLUTION
Recognizing the month of September 2019 as "Preparedness Month"
in Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, The Senate joins with communities across this
Commonwealth to raise awareness about an increasingly common
challenge affecting Pennsylvanians in their homes and places of
business; and
WHEREAS, A recent Federal Emergency Management Agency survey
found that 80% of Americans live in counties that have been hit
with a weather-related disaster in the past 12 years; and
WHEREAS, There are many ways for the residents of this
Commonwealth to raise awareness and take an active role in
emergency preparedness, including establishing an emergency
meeting location, stockpiling water, nonperishable foods and
medicines and becoming CPR certified; and
WHEREAS, In 2017, nearly 60,000 weather-related events across
the country cost the lives of 592 Americans and injured 4,270
others; and

WHEREAS, During "Preparedness Month," residents of this
Commonwealth should engage with their families, neighbors and
friends for emergency action planning and awareness; and
WHEREAS, Whether currently prepared for an emergency or not,
all individuals and each household should create a plan, update
it regularly and periodically practice the plan's execution;
therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate recognize the month of September
2019 as "Preparedness Month" in Pennsylvania.
