A RESOLUTION
Designating July 31, 2019, as "Heatstroke Prevention Day" in
Pennsylvania.
WHEREAS, Heatstroke is the leading cause of non-crash
vehicle-related fatalities for children 14 years of age or
younger; and
WHEREAS, These fatalities have occurred with an outside
temperature in the 50-degree to 59-degree range; and
WHEREAS, Even the most careful parent or caregiver can forget
that a child is in the back seat of a vehicle; and
WHEREAS, Distractions, including lack of sleep, and changes
in daily routine are risk factors for these heatstroke deaths of
children; and
WHEREAS, Fifty-two children died in hot cars in 2018, the
deadliest year on record; and
WHEREAS, July 31 is recognized as "National Heatstroke
Prevention Day"; and
WHEREAS, We can all work together to reduce the number of

preventable child vehicular heatstroke deaths; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate designate July 31, 2019, as
"Heatstroke Prevention Day" in Pennsylvania.
